Open House Information

Our Open Houses invite inquiring families onto our campus and into our classrooms. While visiting with us, families have the opportunity to meet our faculty and staff to learn more about Kent School’s curriculum and mission. Kent School is a truly exciting place to learn and grow. Admission Process

The admission process for your child begins when the application is completed and returned to the Admission Office with the $35.00 application fee. It is appropriate at this time to notify your child’s current school of your family’s intentions.Click here for a pdf of our Admission Application.

After we receive the application, a letter of acknowledgement will be mailed to you with recommended visit/evaluation dates. Enclosed, you will also find the appropriate forms needed to complete the admission process.

  • Little School visits are 30 to 45 minutes.
  • Kindergarten and first grade visits are from 8:30 am to 12:00 pm.
  • Second through eighth grade visits are from 8:30 am to 3:15 pm.
Welcome to Kent School

Kent School requires evaluations for kindergarten through grade eight applicants. Rebecca Reynolds of The School Search Group performs these evaluations. The completed testing helps ensure a good match between the applicant and the school. Evaluations coincide with visit dates. There is a $150.00 fee for testing, payable to Kent School and due on or before the day of testing.

To be submitted to the Admission Committee, the applicant’s folder should include:

Ö Completed Kent School teacher observation form
Ö Little School checklist (If LS applicant)

The Admission Committee will review all of the information and make an admission decision. Kent School makes every effort to be certain there is a good match between the child, the family and the school mission.

What is Kent School’s Student to Teacher Ratio?

Kent School enjoys a student to teacher ratio of 8ᚳ.

How many students are in each class?

There is one class per grade level with an average of 18 students per class. Kindergarten, first, and second grades all have two full-time teachers.

Do you have after school care?

Aftercare is available for a minimal additional fee Monday through Thursday until 5:30 p.m. and Friday until 4:30. (for age 4 and older) Before school care starting at 7:30 a.m. is available at no additional cost.

Do you have bus service available?

Bus service is available to and from Dover and Middletown, Delaware and Queenstown, Centreville, Cecilton, Galena and Chestertown, Maryland. Schedule and fees are available from the Admission Office.

Does Kent School have a sports program?

In addition to our Physical Education program we offer a challenging interscholastic sports program for students in grades six through eight. Please see our Athletics page for more details.

Does Kent School offer extra curricular activities?

In addition to our sports program we offer chorus and stringed instrument programs. We also offer chess, science, and French clubs.

Does Kent School offer financial aid?

Every effort is made to provide financial assistance to as many students as possible. All financial aid awards are based on need as determined by the School and Student Service for Financial Aid (SSS) in Princeton, New Jersey. Grants are awarded on an annual basis beginning March 1 to qualifying returning students and thereafter to new students, as long as funds are available. Families wanting to inquire about financial aid are encouraged to contact the Admission Office and to visit www.nais.org.

Kent School is a member of the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS), and is accredited by the Association of Independent Maryland Schools (AIMS), and is approved by the Maryland State Department of Education.
