Gifts to the Osprey Fund, Kent School’s annual fund campaign, support our operating budget. Revenue from tuition covers approximately 84% of our annual school budget. Gifts to the Osprey Fund help bridge the gap between tuition revenue and the total cost associated with running Kent School.

Building on our Foundations: Phase 2 Media Center Improvement and Expansion

In January, 2010, Kent School conducted a master space plan exercise which included an evaluation of our current space as compared to "like" schools and whether we use our space efficiently and effectively to serve our student body. Results of our space plan indicated that Kent School students and teachers would benefit from an additional 3,000 square feet to accommodate our undersized library and middle school science area.

Currently, our library is housed within our middle school although it serves every student. Our renovation and expansion plans call for the inclusion of a media center and more student friendly entries, exits and room use. A library/media center expansion will provide for better all-school access along with the most up-to-date learning tools in print and online. This overall school improvement will provide us with a facility that matches our academic program's excellence.

The Media Center Improvement and Expansion is the second phase of a three- phase expansion and renovation. Phase one was completed in 2009 which resulted in our expanded Little School which serves three and four year old students. Phase 3 is planned for the 2012-2014 time frame and will fulfill our master space plan objectives of a larger, updated middle school science area and additional classroom space in the middle school.

The General Endowment

Gifts to the General Endowment Fund help the school with long range planning and expenditures. Endowed funds are invested and the school draws a percentage of the annual interest income to support financial assistance, facility maintenance and other expenditures not covered in our annual operating budget.

The Kudner Leyon Memorial

This memorial fund supports the Kudner Leyon Visiting Writers’ program at Kent School. Each year we host an acclaimed author and/or illustrator to our campus for a day of workshops and presentations that engage our students and reflect the emphasis awe place on writing, reading and the literary arts at every grade level. In previous years, funds were raised via the Kudner Leyon Memorial Golf Outing. In 2007, the golf outing was discontinued. However, we continue to raise funds for this stellar program.

The Merriken Alumni Activities Fund

This fund was created by the Class of 2009 to honor Kent School’s first headmistress, Joan Merriken, and her lifelong dedication to the school. Contributions to this fund support the creation of an alumni association and alumni activities at Kent School. The Merriken Alumni Activities Fund is an endowed fund.
