Kent School hosted Ms. Fagell last October as a guest speaker, made possible by the School’s Kudner Leyon Visiting Writers Program and the Kudner Leyon Memorial Endowment.

At the Town Hall, Fagell will discuss student and parent anxiety and disconnection from friends and school during this time of physical distance. After introductions and initial discussion, guests will be invited to submit questions. The Town Hall is open to the public but ‘virtual’ seating will be limited, so advance registration is encouraged. Follow this link to register or email info@kentschool.org. Registered guests will receive a Zoom link on Wednesday before 3:00 p.m. that will allow them to attend the Town Hall.

Nancy Mugele said, “Kent School is really pleased to offer this Town Hall, not only to our school community, but to our surrounding greater community, too. Friends, parents and alumni can join us from anywhere. I guess this is one of the ‘bright side’ opportunities of social distancing. We can still be together for this important and informative Town Hall.” Mugele continued, “I am also so happy to reconnect with Phyllis. Her insight and guidance will be a useful resource for parents with children of all ages, but especially parents of middle school students.”

From her website, “Phyllis has worked in both public and private schools with students in grades K-12. She currently works full time as the school counselor for Sheridan School in Washington, D.C. and provides therapy to children, teens and adults in private practice at the Chrysalis Group, Inc.

Phyllis is the author of Middle School Matters and is a frequent contributor to The Washington Post, focusing on counseling, parenting and education. She writes the Career Confidential weekly advice column for PDK, Intl. for Educators, and “The Meaningful Middle” column for AMLE (Association of Middle Level Educators). She also has written for Psychology Today, Working Mother, Time, U.S. News & World Report, and Your Teen, and her ideas have been shared in The New York Times, The Atlantic, The New Yorker, The Boston Globe, and The Chicago Tribune, among many other outlets.”

Kent School is an independent school serving boys and girls from Preschool through Grade Eight, located on the bank of the Chester River in historic Chestertown. For more information on the Town Hall or Kent School visit www.KentSchool.org or email infor@KentSchool.org
